For me, it is much more interesting than that. It is part of the design language of inSync.
Does stainless steel jewellery tarnish?
Stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion and tarnishing because of the protective chromium-rich layer that forms on its surface. That makes it well suited to jewellery designed to be lived with.
Resistant does not mean indestructible. Chemicals, abrasion, salt, moisture and the way a piece is stored can all affect surfaces over time.
Why does inSync use stainless steel?
I choose materials for what they allow me to make. Stainless steel is strong, relatively light and architectural. It lets me explore line, negative space and scale without relying on bulk.
That balance between visual presence and physical wearability is particularly important in earrings and larger sculptural pieces.
What about matt gold inSync jewellery?
Where an inSync piece has a matt gold finish, the appearance of that surface is separate from the stainless steel beneath it. Plated finishes can change with friction, skin chemistry, cosmetics, moisture and wear.
I would rather be clear about that than describe any plated surface as permanent.
How should I care for stainless steel and plated jewellery?
Keep jewellery away from perfumes, lotions and household chemicals where possible. Remove pieces before swimming, showering or activities that expose them to unnecessary moisture or abrasion. After wearing, gently wipe the surface and store pieces separately so they do not rub against one another.
