WHY STAINLESS STEEL?
Why stainless steel?
Stainless steel was the obvious choice of metal for its qualities of strength, hypoallergenic and non-tarnish characteristics. Let us share with you briefly everything we know about this incredible material...
Durability and strength
The strength of stainless steel allows us to reduce the thicknesses of the metal to craft lightweight wearable pieces with significant strength.
Stainless steel retains its shape and lustre with regular wear and active lifestyle. It is also resistant to scratching, which means it maintains perfect condition for many years.
The chromium oxide film on the metal prevents tarnish and rust from forming and it prevents it from reacting to many other chemicals. Environments that contain high chlorine or salt content can accelerate
tarnish in silver, but they do not affect stainless steel. For that reason,
wearing stainless steel jewellery is often preferred by aquatic athletes (such as divers and swimmers) and people who must regularly wash their hands.
Stainless steel jewellery is low-maintenance. It retains its lustre without needing to polish it.
Hypoallergenic
The low nickel content in the surgical stainless steel gives it hypoallergenic qualities.
While all stainless steel has a small amount of nickel, the alloy does not
generally trigger a reaction from sensitive skin, which is why it is used in surgical instruments and medical implants.
Its hardness means its surface will not readily scratch and create a home for pathogens, and the alloy will not tarnish or stain the skin.
Non-tarnish
Stainless steel offers the lustre and durability of precious metal but in an
attractive and affordable alternative material.
It is tarnish and corrosion resistant and very easy to clean with warm soapy water, with no chemicals required.
Sustainability
Stainless steel is not harmful to people during its production or use, it is a green product and is 100% recyclable. It is not coated with any toxic materials and therefore does not produce any toxic run-off.
Stainless steel is easily recycled to produce more stainless steels and this process can be carried on indefinitely. It is estimated that about 80% of stainless steel products are recycled at the end of their life. As stainless steel has a high intrinsic value, it is collected and recycled without any economic incentives. We recycle and reuse all our material with very little waste in the process.
